Recent study on neovascularization and stability of atherosclerotic plaque

2011
Atherosclerosis(AS)is an important pathological basis that causes cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.Traditionally,it is believed that arterial lumen stenosis caused by atherosclerotic plaque is the main factor that determines the severity of an ailment.New researches show that the stability of atherosclerotic plaque is closely related with neovascularization.Acute Coronary Syndrome caused by atherosclerotic plaque rupture is one main cause of major cardiovascular events. This paper reviews the relationship between angiogenesis in atherosclerotic plaque and plaque stability,as well as how to enhance plaque stability by promoting the maturation of neovascularization.
