EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A ROAD WEATHER INFORMATION SYSTEM IN UTAH

In 1996, the Utah Department of Transportation hired a vendor to supply technology as part of the state's Roadway Weather Information system (RWIS) Supported Management of Winter Maintenance project. The RWIS technology was deployed in a pilot system in six outstations in and around the Wasatch Front region, which is home to 80% of Utah's population. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of the pilot RWIS.
