Synthesis of Nanospheres of Fluorinated Graphite Using an Electrochemical Approach

2002
An electrochemical cell that uses sodium metal and iodine crystals to convert fluorinated graphite (C 1 F 1 ) dust to nanospheres of the polymer is outlined. The low temperature (<200 o C) approach is conducted in a oven over 7 days and produces C 1 F 1 nanospheres in the 5-25 nanometer range. The product, analyzed by SEM, TEM, FT-IR and FT- Raman, is being investigated as a stationary phase for chromatographic separations.
