The earthquakes of stable continental regions. Volume 3: Seismicity data sheets (part 1). Final report

1994
Detailed data sheets for each earthquake in the SCR Database, including transitional events, are contained in this appendix, which is presented in two parts in Volumes 3 and 4. The criteria for defining stable continental crust were developed in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 includes a description of the major data sources utilized in compiling the database and defines the lower magnitude/intensity cutoffs for event inclusion. Also included in Chapter 3 are the methods---ranked by priority---for deriving the assigned moment magnitude of each SCR event, the related quality assignment, and a description of how database completeness was estimated for each SCR. Chapter 4 is concerned mainly with applications and interpretations of the database, but it does contain complete listings and/or summaries of all focal mechanisms and source parameters from the appendix. This database contains seismicity information from the earliest times possible in each SCR to the end of 1990. Because many additions and/or changes to the database have occurred since it was closed so that the Chapter 4 and 4 analyses could be performed, we have put these together in a separate appendix (Appendix E). Together, this appendix and Appendix E make the SCR seismicity database as complete as possible throughtmore » the end of 1990.« less
