The sexual psychopath

2018
An argument is made for the existence of a sexual psychopath and the relationship between psychopathic traits and sexually violent crimes. Offenders of this nature appear to have characteristic deficits of emotion, and are motivated by impulsivity and sensation-seeking specific to their personality. Research has put forth both evolutionary and neurobiological explanations for the sexual psychopath, but gaps suggest the need for further empirical inquiry. Despite the high rates of recidivism found among psychopathic sexual offenders, treatment has proved unreliable and must be considered in future discussions.
