Breast Tumor Laser Ablation
2020
Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent cancer in women. Nowadays, the quadrantectomy with complete axillary dissection followed by whole-breast irradiation has become the cornerstone of breast-conservative surgery. The next step in breast-conserving surgery could be local ablation of small breast carcinomas, provided that it is equally effective as lumpectomy, but with fewer complications and a better cosmetic outcome than a lumpectomy. In this chapter, authors discuss the application of laser ablation (LA) technique in breast for both malignant and benign lesions. The prospect of performing imaging-guided percutaneous treatment under local anesthesia in an outpatient treatment room is attractive for both patients and treating physicians and has the potential for substantial cost savings.
