Covid-19 epidemic reveals and deepens inequalities

The Covid-19 epidemic has been a major trauma for Brazil and the poorest have suffered the most, as it has been difficult for them to observe the hygiene rules in their precarious housing, and because the urgent need to go out to earn enough to eat and feed their families has prevented them from respecting rules of confinement. The epidemic obviously did not create these inequalities, it only tragically highlighted and worsened them: to measure their impact, the article first measures the extent of pre-existing inequalities, on several scales, before seeking to determine the factors associated with the epidemic, again at several scales. We can then verify whether we are dealing with cyclical inequalities or structural inequalities reinforced by this dramatic episode.
