Families of Children with Intellectual Disabilities in Vietnam: Emerging Themes

2009
This chapter will review the current state of research and intervention programs for Vietnamese children with intellectual disabilities and their families. First, we will highlight necessary cultural considerations when planning programs for these children and their families. We will then summarize the existing literature, with a focus on the relationship between social support and caregiver stress. Next, we will discuss the development of psychometrically sound assessment tools for use in a Vietnamese population. Finally, we will suggest considerations for future research and intervention programs. We hope that our work will inspire future programs to support these families.
