Curriculum Development on Machine Intelligence

Intelligence science and technology (IST) has just appeared as a direction for undergraduates in China since 2004. How should we build it? It’s a question being currently studied. During the conference on China IST building hosted by Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) in 2008, "Machine Intelligence (MI)" has been agreed to be one of the first set of kernel lectures for IST. This paper proposes an original MI lecture plan. We first analyze the status of related lectures in and out of China. Then we put forward the name, role and goal of MI. We describe the basic aims of this lecture. We also give the detailed content in chapters and the corresponding time allocated. Then we take the example of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications to analyze the key and difficult points during this lecture teaching. Finally, we propose some suggestions about the book selection and preparation.
