ON SCALING LAWS FOR SAVONIUS WATER CURRENT TURBINES
2010
The Savonius rotor was initially developed as a wind turbine. Here, we present power data for
use of the rotor as a water current turbine. The data is presented in nondimensional form. Two
different geometries and two different sizes were tested in water and in air. The data shows that
for the Savonius rotor the scaling laws work and so can be used to predict prototype behaviour
