High Permittivity Tape Transmission Line Supported by ity Substrate at Millimeter-Wave Frequencies

2009
A new guiding structure which consists of high permittivity tapes inserted in the horizontal mid-plane of a below cutoff parallel metal waveguide was proposed for the realization of mass productive and low loss dielectric waveguides. In this paper, a supporting technique of the high permittivity tape was considered. A guiding structure consisting of the high permittivi- ty tapes attached on a low permittivity substrate was proposed and the transmission characteristics were calculated. From these results, it was obvious that the single mode transmission band- width was about 50 GHz at a center frequency of 60 GHz, and moreover, this guide exhibited a low-dispersion performance just as that of the typical high permittivity tape transmission line and the transmission loss was 14.5 dB/ m in the low-dispersion fre- quency region.
