Concept of a Model System for the Computation of Atmospheric Dispersion Close to Real Situations and the Immediate Assessment of the Radiation Exposure

2000
The technical development and improvement of computer systems allows to check existing computing procedures related to the judgement of possible consequences after incidents for further development or for the gain of more detailed results. Concerning the mesoscale atmospheric modelling, a significant possibility to improve the results is related to the computation of the transport and dispersion of harmful substances, i.e. radioactive material, with the mean wind and under the effects of the turbulent diffusion, taking into regard the orography of the surroundings of up to 100 km. These atmospheric processes can be computed now in more detail within acceptable computation time, even under emergency circumstances.
