Reducing TCR Harmonics Using Sequential Switching

2021
Thyristor Controlled Reactor (TCR) is a FACTS device. As reactor is controlled by Thyristor which is a power electronic device, the output current of the reactor is non−sinusoidal due to which total harmonic distortion (THD) is found to be more in the current that is flowing through the reactor. The THD content also increases as the firing angle of the Thyristor also increases if this device is used for any application efficiency will be reduced in order to overcome this effect sequential switching of TCR is preferred. For verification of the proposed method, simulation is performed in MATLAB software and it is observed that THD content is reduced.
