JENIS-JENIS EKTOPARASIT PADA SAPI BALI (BOS SONDAICUS) DITANJUNG SENAI KABUPATEN OGAN ILIR SUMATRA SELATAN

2021
Ectoparasites are parasites that live on the surface of the host body or in burrows on the skin which still have free contact with the outside world. The Tanjung Senai area is an area in the Ogan Ilir Regency which has large swampy areas. The swampy swamps in Ogan Ilir district have the potential as a habitat for cattle and buffalo. The cows in Tanjung Senai have 4 color variants from white, black, brown and striped colors with different body sizes. The obstacles faced by the community in raising cattle are generally livestock diseases such as parasites. Disruption of livestock diseases is one of the obstacles faced in developing breeders. One of the parasites that is very detrimental and can reduce the population and cause a large level of loss for breeders, namely the Boophilus tick. This study aims to identify the types of ectoparasites for Bali cattle (Bos sondaicus) based on variations in skin color and age and density of ectoparasites in cattle and to determine the effect of cleanliness around the pen that affects the emergence of ectoparasites in cattle in Tanjung Senai, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. This research was conducted from July to September 2020. Sampling used the simple random sampling method, which is a sampling method in populations based on different characteristics. The observation results showed that the types of ectoparasites in the genus Boophilus, genus Haematobia sp., Genus Stomoxys sp., Genus Haematopinus sp., Based on the density of ectoparasites in the cage 1, the highest percentage came from the genus Boophilus with 357 individuals. Attacking Bali cattle aged 2-3 years. The older the cows are, the higher the prevalence of intensity, for young cattle, the prevalence is lower. Based on the density of ectoparasite in cage 2, the highest density was obtained from black Bali cattle (Bos sondaicus) with 227 and brown Bali cows (Bos sondaicus) 237 at the age of 2-3 years. The type of ectoparasites observed from the genus Haematopinus sp., The bed bug comes when it needs blood, after which it hides in dark places or in sheltered crevices away from its host. The lowest number of genus Stomoxys and Haematopia comes from the striped Balinese cattle (Bos sondaicus), the color of the striped cow, a combination of black and white, disturbs the sight of flies to suck blood in cows which are striped. These stripes make it difficult for flies or insects to detect. cow movement. The color of the stripes on the body of Bali Cows (Bos sondaicus) can help the defense system of the cow's body from flies.
