The invention discloses a device and method for measuring the side precision of a gear of an automobile transmission. The device comprises a laser plane generator, a laser detection target and a movement mechanism controlled by an embedded system. A first connecting rod and a second connecting rod of the movement mechanism control upward movement and downward movement of the laser plane generator and the upward movement and the downward movement or horizontal movement of the laser detection target through a first servo mechanism and a second servo mechanism. The laser plane generator is in tight contact with or separated from a detected plane through a first electronic control magnetic base, and when the laser plane generator is in contact with the detected plane, a laser plane is generated. The laser detection target is in tight contact with or separated from the detected plane through a second electronic control magnetic base, when the laser detection target is in contact with the detected plane, the height value of the laser plane is measured, measured data are directly transmitted to the embedded system, and a measurement result is displayed through the screen of the embedded system finally. According to the device and method for measuring the side precision of the gear of the automobile transmission, the laser plane is used as a measurement datum, and the measurement precision is high; automation of the measurement process is achieved through the movement mechanism controlled by the embedded system, and therefore the measurement speed is improved.
