Advances in application of proteomics in study of pathogenesis of acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome

2009
Following the improvement of molecular biology and bioinformatics technology in recent years, proteomics has been used in the study of pathogenesis of acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome(ALI/ARDS).Proteomics captures a complete set of expressed proteins in an organism, including protein isoforms and post-transcriptional modification. There are multiple advantages to studying protein expression by proteomics rather than gene expression by genomics.Although the study of proteomics on the application of ALI/ARDS pathogenesis is just initial,it has great potential to improve understanding about patterns of protein expression in ALI/ARDS,find new mediators of injury, and develop new therapeutic drugs. Key words: Proteomics; Acute lung injury; Acute respiratory distress syndrome; Pathogenesis
