DAMPING IN BOLTED END PLATE BEAM COLUMN CONNECTIONS. ACMSM 9; THE NINTH AUSTRALASIAN CONFERENCE ON THE MECHANICS OF STRUCTURES AND MATERIALS, 29-31 AUGUST 1984, UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY

1984
Moment resistant beam column connections made using end plates and high strength friction grip bolts have been tested both under static and pulsating loads with the intention to determine the energy absorption characteristics of these connections. The effect of end plate thickness on damping capacity has been considered for a constant bolt diameter and member cross-section. Loss of bolt tension under pulsating loads is also considered. Three specimens made using 20mm, 16mm and 12mm end plate thickness have been tested. Use of flexible end plates is recommended for these connections. (Author/TRRL)
