Identification of several profiles in a sexual assault case

Abstract Y chromosome markers are particularly helpful in sexual assaults. The use of these specific polymorphisms improves the chances of detecting low levels of the male DNA in mixtures with a high quantity of female DNA. Here we report a case of a prostitute sexually assaulted. The police send to our laboratory seven swabs collected from the suspects. Two of these suspects possess identical haplotype on the loci DYS389I, DYS390, DYS389II, DYS19, DYS385, DYS393, DYS391, DYS439, DYS392, GATA H4, DYS437 and DYS438.
