System and method for increasing the engine power

The invention relates to an engine output increasing system for an internal combustion engine, a corresponding method and an excavator. The system comprises sensor means for detecting a load which is to be overcome by the engine during operation of the internal combustion engine, and a motor controller, which is connected with the engine for receiving load information from the sensor means and for controlling the operation of the engine. The motor controller is configured to activate an engine power increase by increasing the limit of the fuel injection quantity of the internal combustion engine by a normal injection quantity limit to an increased injection quantity limit when the load information indicates that the load exceeds a load threshold. The engine power increase is terminated by recovering the normal injection quantity limit after the Morotleistungserhohung has activated for a predetermined period of time. The internal combustion engine can be effectively protected by means of the disclosed system and method.
