β,β-Carotene

In Chapter 3 Part III various syntheses of β,β-carotene (3) have been described and in Chapter 3 Part VII the procedures for the industrial production of 3 have been discussed. In this Example using a C20+C20 strategy, the experimental details for the synthesis of β,β-carotene (3) on a laboratory scale are given. It is hoped that these protocols may be used frequently in practical courses in synthetic organic chemistry.
