e.Scent Device: Scent Whisper and Fontenay Aux Roses Bag

2006
My collection comprises three ‘wearable technology’ prototypes. As a researcher working in the field of ‘Sensory Design’ my research has been influenced by my work in the healthcare sector, my research has proved that it is possible to deliver scent, by fusing emerging technologies with perfumery, to create a new level of experience and ‘well-being’, via a system that came from the scientific and creative disciplines and philosophies of thought, and where high-risk was involved. The study identified a new method of aroma delivery, by embedding microfluidics into ‘responsive’ jewellery, to benefit health through olfaction stimulation of the autonomic nervous system. The jewellery explored delivery issues around the defence mechanism in bombardier beetles, providing a novel communication system to wirelessly send a scented message. Further prototypes included the ‘FontenayAuxRoses’ bag. My research has drawn reference from digital fragrancing, entomology, wireless communications, interaction design and chemistry and has made a significant contribution to the field of scent delivery in wearable technology for the benefit of well-being.
