The (D-D) fusion reaction products identification using the CR 39 track detector

1991
Abstract Proton sensitive solid state nuclear track detectors [SSNTD's] like CR 39 can be also used for fusion reaction products identification with implications for plasma diagnostics. In this work such possibilities are analyzed in the case of D-D fusion reaction at the energy E d ≈300 keV. Detector used [CR 39 - Pershore] was calibrated using different accelerators, calibration curves obtaining were adopted to analyze the possibilities of the determination of type and the energy of particle. It was found that such possibility is real, the particle energy can be however determined only if the angle of particle incidence is known. However, the energy resolution does not seem to be sufficient to use the method for direct plasma diagnostics. Some further developments are proposed.
