Clínica Integrada: o desafio da integração multidisciplinar em odontologia

2009
The main objective of the Integrated Clinic discipline is the planning and accomplishment of an ideal dental treatment, with multidisciplinary integration in such a manner that the student’s productivity may improve his professional skills. The aim of this study was to identify the principal intercurrent variables and their influence on the clinical productivity of undergraduate students of the discipline of Integrated Clinics of the Sao Paulo Dental School University. Intercurrent variables were evaluated from 300 treatment plans accomplished by students in four different semesters. The plans were divided into two Groups, according to the kind of treatment required: Group I – 200 patients in phase of mouth prepare and beginning of rehabilitation period (plastic restorations) and Group II – 100 patients in conclusion of the rehabilitation (prosthesis). In Group I, the intercurrencies, most frequently found, were related to the endodontic treatment, specifically during the biomechanical preparation of root canals. In Group II, most intercurrent variables were related to prosthesis, specifically impression mistakes. Due to the intercurrencies, the treatment plan originally proposed was compromised, with 21.50% of concluded plans in Group I and 33.00% in Group II. The intercurrencies, mainly the ones related to endodontics and prosthesis, have caused the students low clinic productivity in several procedures observed in Group I as well as in Group II, being responsible for considerable compromising of the original treatment plan.
