INVESTIGATION ON THE REMOVAL OF THE CHARGE FROM IRRADIATED OBJECTS BY SUPPLEMENTARY IRRADIATION WITH SLOW ELECTRONS

1962
In the irradiation of thin insulating foils with fast electrons, charges occur which do not affect the electron microscopic image, but cause very considerable interferences in the shadow image (flicker effect) and in the investigation of small-angle diffraction phenomena. By supplementary irradiation with slow electrons, according to irradiation conditions and the residual gas pressure present, the charges were either removed or amplified, which leads to various phenomena especially in the shadow image.
