Pion photoproduction on /sup 27/Al: The effect of V/sub opt/

Total cross sections for pion photoproduction to bound states in /sup 27/Mg are calculated in the distorted wave impulse approximation and compared to experiment. Particular attention is paid to the form of the optical potential used to incorporate final state effects. Substantial differences are found between results using an earlier potential and present results using potentials having different analytic forms. The latter lead to good agreement with experiment.
