How to Control Ground Surface Settlement: from an EPB Shield Designer's View

The author,from an EPB shield designer's view,proposes some effective countermeasures,including increasing the opening ratio of the cutter head and providing enough drive capacity,so as to control the ground surface settlement during the construction of Metro works.Then the author presents the case of successful control of the ground surface settlement in the construction of the 12th bid section of Line 10 of Beijing Metro.In the end,the author suggests that the construction management should be strengthened so as to avoid ground surface settlement and to guarantee the safety of Metro work construction.
