The Molecular epidemiology of rotavirus infections in samples received from a private pathology practice during the 2010 and 2011 seasons

2014
The molecular epidemiology of rotavirus infections in samples received from a private pathology practice during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Rotaviruses have been identified as the most common cause of severe diarrhoea in young children. The WHO protocol on burden of disease requires research on seasonality, age of infection and genotyping of strains. Stool samples were collected from March 2010 to August 2011, and the analysis included enzyme linked immunosorbent assays, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction.
