Application of the scored patient-generated subjective global assessment in monitoring the preoperative nutrition status of neoplasms patients in the department of thoracic surgery

2014
Objective To understand the preoperative nutrition status of neoplasms patients in the department of thoracic surgery, in order to provide the basis for mastering the appropriate time of nutritional support and the implementation of individualized nutritional support scheme. Methods Eighty-eight neoplasms patients in the department of thoracic surgery from June 2013 to November 2013 were chosen, and the preoperative nutrition status of patients was evaluated by the scored patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA).Results The P50 score of PG-SGA was 8.The percent of patients who don’ t need nutritional intervention was 14.8%, and the percent of patients who needed medication guide was 12.5%, and the percent of patients who need nutrition support was 26.1%, and the percent of patients who were in great demand of nutrition intervention was 46.6%.The degree of malnutrition in the esophageal cancer patients was higher than that in the lung/thoracic cancer patients, and the difference was statistically significant (χ^2=-3.62,P〈0.01). Conclusions Application of PG-SGA can assess the preoperative nutrition status of neoplasms patients in the department of thoracic surgery, and is worthy of clinical promotion. The nutrition guidance should be carried out according to the risk of nutrition, and the early nutrition treatment should be implemented so as to get the best nutrition intervention.
