Role of Liver Stiffness in the Management of Liver Transplantation: First Experience and Clinical Practice

2020
Liver stiffness has been evaluated in any context of the liver transplantation (LTX) as this organ is subject to both transplant-related diseases and those of the general population. So far, however, studies with limited case numbers have been published. Most experience has been gained with transient elastography and in the context of recurrent hepatitis C after transplantation. Periodic measurement of liver stiffness has a well-defined role in the life-long follow-up of the transplanted liver, and it has become part of the usual clinical practice as an easy-to-use and repeatable monitoring tool in the individual management of patients with the highest need of attention.
