Effects of electrical stimulation of VSA on the firing characteristics of pyrogen-treated thermosensitive neurons in rabbits POAH

2001
Aim:To clarify further into the antipyretic mechamnism in region. Methods: The firing rate and thermosensitive coefficient of thermosensitive neurons in POAH was observed with extracellular microelectrode technique on 32 New Zealand White rabbits. Results: (1)when intraceretroventriculary(icv) injection of interleukin-1 β(IL-1 β) caused decrease of discharging rate of warm- sensitive neurons in preoptic anterior hypothalamus(POAH), electrical stimulation of ventral septal area(VSA) can remarkablely decrease thermosensitive coefficient of warm-sensitive neurons. (2) when intraceretroventricularly(icv) injection of interleukin-1 β(IL-1 β) caused increase of discharging rate of cold-sensitive neurons in POAH, electrical stiumlation of VSA can remarkabely increase thermosensitive coefficient of cold-sensitive neurons. Conclusion:VSA of negative regulation may antipyretic fever through affecting the firing characteristics of pyrogen-treated thermosensitive neurons in the POAH.
