A comparative study of bedside pulmonary function tests and standard spirometry in stable COPD Patients

Various bedside pulmonary function tests have been described in pulmonary disease like obstructive airway disease. We assessed the accuracy and validity of various bedside PFT’s & studied the correlation of bedside PFT’s with standard spirometric parameters. FVC, FEV1 sec, FEV1/FVC ratio were correlated with different bedside PFTs. Chi square and unpaired t test & Pearson’s correlation were used. A total of 105 stable COPD patients were studied. In Olsen modified match test, when a person is unable to blow out the match stick at a distance of 9 inch, it is reasonable to assume FEV1 is below 900 ml, as only one out of 6 patients had FEV1 of 1100 ml, rest all 5 patient have FEV1 of
