Development of a novel RE-texture component in a Mg-Y-RE/SiCp magnesium composite through friction stir processing

2019
Abstract A rare-earth containing magnesium alloy was subjected to friction stir processing (FSP) in the presence of micron sized SiC particles. In addition to the conventional B-fiber shear texture, a novel texture component with an arc-shaped IPF pattern from [20-23]//TD to [11-22]//TD was observed in the SiC-rich regions. This new texture component was deeply analyzed through orientation distribution function (ODF). Interestingly, the texture of recrystallized grains which were formed through particle stimulation nucleation (PSN) mechanism effectively contributed to the formation of this novel texture component.
