The First Enantioselective Synthesis of Polyoxygenated α‐Hydroxydihydrochalcones and Circular Dichroic Assessment of Their Absolute Configuration.

Epoxidation of the chalcone (I) in the presence of poly-L-alanine or poly-D-alanine yields the enantiomeric trans-substituted epoxides (-)-(II) or (+)-(II) which are cleaved by hydrogenation, producing the optically active alcohols (III).
