An analysis on generic barriers to bioenergy technologies adoption in context of rural India

Abstract Bioenergy technologies can play a prominent role to meet out energy requirements of rural areas of India. There are some potential generic barriers, which are responsible for the slow rate of bioenergy technologies adoption. To deal these barriers efficiently; ranking of generic barriers to the bioenergy technologies adoption is done with the help of analytical hierarchy process. Five dimensions of barriers categorized as institutional, informational, financial, policy and market related are identified and each dimension is further classified in three barriers to rank the generic barriers. The result of this research shows that the barriers related to the technology push approach, inadequate government policies and high initial cost are found be decisive with weight respectively 0.19603,0.17059 and 0.11794. The result of this research can show directions to the various stakeholders for analyzing bioenergy technologies in the most effective and efficient way.
