Three-dimensional speckle tracking imaging in evaluation of left ventricular global strain in normal adults with different age

2013
Objective To observe the left ventricular global longitudinal strain(GLS),global radial strain(GRS),global circular strain(GCS) and global area tracking(GAT) with three-dimensional speckle tacking imaging(3D-STI),and to explore the relation between strain and aging. Methods A total of 153healthy volunteers were divided into adolescence(18 — 45years old,n=54),middle-aged(46 — 64years old,n=51) and elderly groups(≥65years old,n=48).All volunteers were examined with echocardiography to obtain the general data and 3Dapical four-chamber.3DT software was applied to acquire the strain curves of the left ventricular wall to determine the strains. Results Compared with the adolescence and middle-aged groups, the elderly group had lower GLS,GRS,GCS and GAT(all P0.05).There was no statistical difference of GLS,GRS nor GCS between adolescence and middle-aged groups(all P0.05),but GAT of middle-aged group was lower than that of adolescence group(P0.05).LS,RS and AT of adolescence group gradually decreased from mitral valve level to apex level, and increased in CS.LS,RS,CS and AT of middle-aged groups gradually decreased from mitral valve level to apex level.LS,RS,CS and AT of elderly group were maximum at the mitral valve level and minimum at the papillary muscle. Conclusion With the age growing,GLS,GRS,GCS and GAT of the left ventricle decrease.
