The determination of chloride activity in an anion exchange resin (amberlite IRA-410), from the study of the distribution coefficients of stable anions

1964
Abstract The work reported in this paper is part of a research using anion-exchange for the study of aqueous solutions of organometallic compounds. To correct the experimental distribution coefficients of these compounds for invasion of the resin by the supporting electrolyte, the invasion correction function r F a , for the system LiCl aq.—Amberlite IRA-410, was determined. This was carried out by measurements of the distribution coefficients of the stable anions Br − and Zn(CN) 4 2− at various LiCl concentrations. This method was suggested by Marcus and Coryell . The r F a function obtained in such a way has been shown correct by comparing with direct measurements of the invasion. The use of this accurate and simple method will noticeably expedite the determination of r F a .
