Update on Recommendations for the Treatment of Syphilis

Reviews of syphilis therapy that were published in 1976 were used in the formulation of recommended treatment schedules by the U.S. Public Health Service in that year [1, 2]. The present review includes the limited amount of new information published since 1976 along with the solicited views of clinicians and public health officials concerning revision of the 1976 recommendations. Highlighted are those areas where change has been suggested.
