PREVENTING CRACK USING ELECTROMAGNETIC HEATING AND MECHANICAL PROPERTY TESTING FOR SPECIMENS WITH SPACE CRACK UNDER TENSION

2007
Firstly, crack prevention was achieved in a cracked standard tension specimen by pulse current discharge using ZL-2 pulse current generating equipment. The melt of crack tip formed a compressed stress area around the crack tip, which inhibited further cracking. The curvature radius around the crack tip can be increased by several orders of magnitude instantly using this method. Numerical simulation was used to obtain the technical parameters for crack prevention. After crack inhibition, the cracked specimen was subject to tension. The results show that the tensile strength of the specimen increase considerably after crack prevention using electromagnetic heating, and the discharged voltage is the most important factor.
