Cooling turbo-machine stator vanes

1993
Each vane comprises an aerofoil having longitudinal cavities (5, 6, 7, 8, 9,1 o and 11) and a base comprising transverse cavities (14, 15, 16 and 22, 23, 24, 25). External inlet openings (38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44) supply cooling fluid to the cavities and external outlet openings (33, 34, 53, 54, 36, 37) conduct cooling fluid from the cavities. The number of inlet openings is equal to the number of longitudinal cavities for each blade, and the longitudinal and transverse cavities are associated in pairs (22-5; 146; 7-15; 23-8; 9-24; 16-10; 25-11). The arrangement of cavities minimises changes in direction of the cooling air flow thereby reducing consequent pressure drops enabling the cooling air flow rate to be reduced.
