Invisible Goldstone bosons

Using an extended version of the decoupling theorem in Lagrangian field theory, we give a short, rigorous proof for the decoupling of those (pseudo-) Goldstone bosons that arise from a spontaneously broken global symmetry with a hierarchy of breaking scales. The invisible axion is an example of this fairly general phenomenon.
