RESISTÊNCIA NATURAL DA MADEIRA DE TRÊS ESPÉCIES AMAZÔNICAS SUBMETIDAS AO ATAQUE DE FUNGOS APODRECEDORES

2013
This study aimed to evaluate the mass loss of marupa, jequitiba and cumaru wood submitted to white and brown rot. In additionally, were established periods of time, weeks, for the execution of accelerated decay tests. For this purpose, specimens of each Amazon wood species were submitted to accelerated decay tests, according to ASTM D2017, for 20 weeks. Cumaru wood showed higher natural resistance, being classified as very resistant during the 20 weeks of accelerated decay tests. Brown rot resulted in higher mass loss for cumaru and jequitiba wood, whereas white rot attacked more intensely marupa wood. The period 8-12 weeks, according to the testing standards of ASTM D2017, was not sufficient for characterization of the natural resistance by mass loss of the three Amazon wood species. The period required for the characterization of natural resistance to white rot was 20, 14 and 12 weeks, while to brown rot was 20, 18 and 14 weeks for marupa, jequitiba and cumaru wood, respectively.
