Le projet IGDOM : pour une intégration des territoires ultramarins dans un référentiel national de gestion durable des forêts

2015
For 20 years, France has published the sustainable forest management’s report for mainland France. Forests in overseas territories account for 30% of national forested surface area but in spite of their magnitude and their exceptional biodiversity are not included in the report. The purpose of the IGDOM project is to fill this gap by incorporating the sustainable management indicators for overseas departements and regions into the IGDFF report. A team of students has been working on standards that would enable the specific issues facing those forests to be accommodated while maintaining consistency with the Pan-European criteria and indicators adopted by France. In this article, the challenges facing forest management in the overseas territories are described. A number of indicators, typical of each territory, are developed to illustrate the work done during this assignment.
