A negative surface-ionization ion source for the on-line mass separator OSTIS

1987
Abstract A new negative surface-ionization ion source was developed for use at the on-line mass separator OSTIS. The ion source is heated by electron bombardment partially to 2400 K. It contains 2 g of 235 U in a graphite matrix and a LaB 6 surface ionizer in front of the extraction hole. First experiments produced mass scans of 86–90 Br and 136–141 I.
