The effect of the change in volume of the reaction system on the kinetics of free-radical polymerization☆

Abstract Kinetic equations of free-radical polymerization that take account of the change in volume of the system during the process, are derived. The effect of the change in volume on the degree of conversion of monomer and on the calculated kinetic parameters is determined. It is concluded that the ordinary formulae, not taking account of the change in volume are satisfactory for most practical purposes.
