Adsorption of copper valerate on zeolite H-ZSM-5 and γ-Al2O3

The adsorption of copper valerate, compared with copper nitrate, on HZSM-5 and γ-Al 2 O 3 was studied using IR and inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The surface area and pore structure of HZSM-5 and γ-Al 2 O 3 was measured with nitrogen physical adsorption. Results indicated a chemical adsorption of copper valerate occurred on the surface of γ-Al 2 O 3 and external surface of HZSM-5. The =(COO) 2 Cu was the adsorbing group. There even existed a chemical reaction, which resulted in the formation of valeric acid.
