PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and lightweight hydrogen storage alloy having excellent hydrogen occluding characteristics. SOLUTION: This ABC type hydrogen storage alloy is the one contg. ABC phases (where the A element denotes at least one kind among alkaline earth elements and rare earth elements, the B element denotes at least one kind among the group IIIb elements, and the C element denotes at least one kind among the group IVb elements) as the main structural components. The method for producing the ABC type hydrogen storage alloy is the one in which an alloy raw material having a compsn. composed of AxByCz (where the A element denotes at least one kind among alkaline earth elements and rare earth elements, the B element denotes at least one kind among the IIIb elements, and the C element denotes at least one kind among the IVb elements. (x), (y) and (z) are positive integers, and, the maximum value therein is ≤ twice the minumum value) is compacted, and the compacted body is sintered at 670 to 880°C. COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
