A Method for Validating Employment Interviews for Residential Child Care Workers

1983
Eleven residential child care couples (husband-wife teams known as "Teaching-Parents") who already had been hired were divided into two groups according to their scores on certain on-the- job performance measures. Past personal history, pre-employment background, and employment interview information for the two groups were then compared to determine possible predictors of later on-the-job performance. Findings suggested that certain measures may predict subsequent on-the-job performance as residential child care workers. In addition, the study served to demonstrate that reliable employment selection measures can be systematically developed and tested for the residential child care field.
