A bipolar plate, method for producing a bipolar plate and fuel cell system

A bipolar plate comprising: a cathode surface, which has at least one first flow distribution channel for at least a first reactant; and an anode surface which comprises at least a second flow distribution channel for at least one second reactant, wherein at least one of the cathode surface and the anode surface comprises an austenitic stainless steel which comprises by weight: more than 20 and not more than 35 manganese; 0.5 to 1.5 nickel; 17 to 20 chromium; 0.2 to 0.5 nitrogen; less than 0.075 carbon; 0.5 to 1.0 silicon; up to 0.1 aluminum; less than 0.005 sulfur; and a balance of iron and incidental impurities.
