Defending the environment: environmental considerations in the department of defence redevelopment, Lavarack barracks

Successful integration of environmental criteria into infrastructure development projects requires more than an 'Environmental Impact Assessment' at the beginning of the project. This is even more critical with integrated project delivery methods such as 'Design and Construct' and Managing Contractor type contracts, where the critical developmental decisions are made throughout the process. This paper reviews the methodology employed to add environmental values to and minimise environmental impacts of the Stage 2 Lavarack Barracks Redevelopment in Townsville. In particular, the paper demonstrates how environmental management was integrated into every step of the decision making process.
