Methods of hand function assessment in neurological pathology. A literature review

2018
The review acquaints the reader with methods used to assess hand function in patients with neurological disorders and aims to assist in selecting the most optimal among them. It presents 15 reliable and easy-to-use tools that are extensively used worldwide. Selection of tools for the review was based on the analysis of relevant literature found in PubMed and Google Scholar. Additionally, the prospects for introducing one or another method into domestic clinical practice are taken into account based on its cost, duration and qualification requirements for a specialist who conducts the evaluation. The overview describes in detail the basic parameters of the tool and identifies the groups of patients that can use these tools. Methods are systematized, tools similar in content are grouped. For convenience, tools with their key parameters are presented in the form of a pivot table. It is worth noting that the review does not determine the gold standard for evaluation of motor function of the hand in patients with neurological pathology, but only offers a list of possible options.
